Undergraduate African Studies Internship

The African Studies Program is pleased to accept applications for the Undergraduate African Studies Internship for Fall 2016. This opportunity gives two students a full exposure to the field of African Studies and can be used for a 3-credit Academic Internship. Some skills you will be able to work on during this internship are: networking, public speaking, communications, media relations, critical thinking, and knowledge of Africa. This is a great way to build your resume and gain real life experience working for a university.

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate the Pitt Model African Union Event
  • Maintain the ASP website
  • Organize, write, edit, and send out a monthly newsletter
  • Help increase African Studies media presence
  • Plan and facilitate an event
  • Attend African Studies Program activities and weekly meetings
  • Any other research activities as needed



  • Must demonstrate professional work etiquette including strong interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills; independent work ethic; and the ability to take initiative
  • Must be willing to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week of service to the African Studies Program
  • Must have a range of technology skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
