STUDY ABROAD
African Studies encourages students to pursue opportunities for study abroad in Africa to augment their intellectual, professional and personal development through both formal and experiential learning in another cultural context. Currently, the Study Abroad Office at the University of Pittsburgh coordinates a program in Tanzania directed by Dr. Linda Winkler. Other programs are soon to be established and we will inform you about them as they become availabe

COMMUNITY HEALTH IN TANZANIA
This program provides students with an opportunity to experience the community and rich culture of rural East Africa and see first-hand the social and health issues that accompany the poverty of rural African life. They also get to learn about global issues that include: community health and disease, political impact of colonialism, HIV/AIDS programs, orphan support, and women’s issues.

Students take Anthropology 1725: Social and Health Issues in East Africa during Spring term (3 credits) and travel to Tanzania in summer (June) for four weeks (3 credits). Click here for more information
