Affiliated Faculty

The African Studies Program benefits from a diverse range of over 35 core and affiliated faculty members whose research and teaching interests focus on Africa and African continuities in the “New World”. Their expertise and course offerings are particularly strong in the following disciplines and areas: Africana Studies, development policy, education, health sciences, history, international affairs, law, linguistics, literature, music and political science. We are always encouraging the development of new courses with at least 25% content or more on Africa.
The program organizes forums for faculty to get together, interact, and become familiar with each other’s work and share topics of interest through public presentations to students, fellow members of the faculty, staff and the wider community of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. Below is a listing of all affiliated faculty. If you notice any omissions please notify us and we will take care of the situation. Affiliated faculty meets once a year to receive program updates and to discuss program activities, research interests, student participation and faculty working with students in study abroad in Africa, internships, and or research related activities.

Advisory Committee:
The program comprises an 8 member Advisory Committee whose roles and responsibilities include advising the director and providing guidance for improvement. They also take a leadership role in institutional partnerships and conference planning. They meet twice a year in the spring and fall terms.
