To all Asian Studies Center faculty, staff, students, and friends,
I am delighted to announce that Dr. Dennis Hart has accepted our offer to be the Associate Director of the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh effective June 1, 2008. Dr. Hart has a PhD in Political Science from the University of Washington. He is an expert in the politics of Korea. Dr. Hart will be moving from Kent State University, where he is associate professor of political science, founder of a growing Asian studies initiative, and the winner of numerous teaching awards. Accompanying him will be his spouse Dr. Young Rae Oum. Please join the Asian Studies Center staff in welcoming Dr. Hart when you meet him this summer.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the co-chairs of the search committee, Professors David Mills and Richard Scaglion, and their colleagues on the committee, Brenda Jordan, Eileen Weiner, Hong Xu, and Seung-Hyun Yoo, for organizing and conducting a search that yielded such a fine result.
Thank you,
