    Japanese Ceramics Demonstration
    The Pitt community was treated to a demonstration of Japanese ceramic techniques and wabisabi style by the renowned Japanese ceramicists Hiromu and Mieko Okuda, part of the regional High School Japanese Speech Contest. This event was sponsored in part by ASC, the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania, the Japanese Speaking Society, and the Manchester Craftsmans Guild, as well as various corporate sponsors.

    Chinese Theatre Works: The Peony Pavilion
    New York City's Chinese Theatre Works, with financial sponsorship from ASC and the Confucius Institute at the University of Pittsburgh, presented the scenes "Wandering in the Garden and Waking from the Dream" from this beloved Chinese opera from the Ming Dynasty at the CAPA Theater in downtown Pittsburgh.

    Attack Theatre: Preserve and Pursue Dance Event
    Pittsburgh's Attack Theatre, with financial sponsorship from ASC and the Japan Iron and Steel Federation and Mitsubishi Endowments, presented a dance event featuring music by Japanese composters Somei Satoh (Tokyo) and Miyuki Ito (Nagoya) and Attack Theatre Music Director Dave Eggar at the New Hazlett Theatre in Pittsburgh.

    Japanese Coming of Age and New Year's Celebration
    A part of the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development's Holidays Around the World series, this event featured cultural games, arts and crafts, and a cooking demonstration related to these two Japanese winter holidays. Co-sponsored by ASC and the Japanese Speaking Society, this event also featured a guest lecture by Eduardo Gonzalez, study abroad study to Japan.

    A concert under the direction of Andrew Weintraub, with performances by fall semester students.

    P'ansori: Traditional Korean Story-Singing
    A performance by Chan E. Park, Associate Professor of Korean Language, Literature, & Performance Studies at The Ohio State University. Dr. Park performed “Song of the Underwater Palace” as a part of ASC's "The United States and the Koreas: A Critical Relationship" symposium.

    East Meets West: Japanese Taiko Drumming
    Performances by Ryo Shiobara, Pandle Collaros, and Takumi Kato, cosponsored by ASC, University Center for International Studies, the Japan-America Society of PA, and Bethany College, West Virginia.

    Part of the 2008 High School Japanese Speech Contest, a demonstration of wabisabi ceramic techniques was given by renowned Japanese ceramicist Hiromu Okuda, current resident artist at the Manchester Craftsmans Guild.
