Biography

Gemma Marolda is currently Acting Associate Director of the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh. She has recently come back from a tour of three years in Southeast Asia where she was a visiting fellow at the Centre for European Union Studies at Chulalongkorn University (Chula) in Bangkok, Thailand. Over 20 years in the field of International Relations and European Studies, Marolda has taught extensively on issues of global governance, international cooperation, foreign policy and security cooperation of advanced industrial democracies, European Union politics and integration. She is also a business consultant for Asian manufacturing companies conducting business in Europe. 

Most recently, Marolda’s teaching and research focus on cooperation and integration efforts in Asia (with particular attention to East and South-East Asia) and the inter-regional dialogue between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

She is an avid runner, and enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children Angela, John Mauro and Francesco.
