Asian Studies Center seeking Assistant Director for Educational Outreach

The Asian Studies Center is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director for Educational Outreach at the Oakland campus. This employee will serve as the primary coordinator for the K-16 Educational Outreach Program within the Asian Studies Center and that includes activities in collaboration with other units of the University Center for International Studies. The employee will also serve as the assistant to the Japan Studies Coordinator and coordinator of the Asia Over Lunch lecture series. He/she will be required to lecture and present at sessions of workshops or conferences. He/she will write and produce a semiannual newsletter for K-12 teachers and supervise a GSA. He/she will also prepare an annual budget and monitor expenditures on the K-12 Outreach budget allocation within the external funds available for this purpose and assist with writing grant proposals that fund the outreach program. Oral/written proficiency in Japanese required and a PhD strongly preferred. This is a full-time position.
Qualifications: BA required, ABD (All But Dissertation) or PhD strongly preferred. Japan specialist with fluency in the language preferred. The Assistant Director will be asked to lead professional development workshops for teachers, give presentations and lectures, and teach at the university level. The AD will also be required to assist with Japan Studies programs and events at a level that requires the ability to interact skillfully with Japanese using the Japanese language. Two years of a combination of academic and administrative experience at the university level preferred.
Work Schedule: Work Schedule to Vary - While regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., there may be times when employee may be required to work evenings and/or weekends depending on the schedule of events (teacher workshops and conferences often occur during the evenings and on weekends).
