CERIS Readers Forum
On February 26, 2010, 5:30 – 8:00 PM, in 4217 Posvar Hall, University of Pittsburgh, CERIS will hold their bi-annual Readers Forum for faculty. Come for a light dinner and engage in an interesting book discussion. The book for the spring forum is Islam and the Secular State: Negotiating the Future of Shari`a by Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na`im. The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. David Montgomery, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of Pittsburgh. Contact Elaine Linn at eel58@pitt.edu to RSVP. CERIS Undergraduate Research Symposium
Save the date for the 2010 CERIS Undergraduate Research Symposium! April 10, 2010 at Washington & Jefferson College. Present your research with other undergraduate students from 25 institutions in Ohio and Pennsylvania on topics related to Islamic studies in the arts, sciences, or professional academic disciplines. Build your academic portfolio by expanding a paper developed for a course...and papers are eligible for cash prizes of up to $500. Papers should pertain to questions of policy and politics in the Muslim world, or to issues of religion and culture in Islam. Deadline for paper submissions is March 25, 2010. Click here for a flyer.
New CERIS Curriculum Development Grants Program
designed to enable faculty from member institutions to pursue curricular development and enhancement projects related to Islamic Studies. Applications are accepted year-round, and awards are made twice yearly (fall and spring). Read more.
