Situated in a subtropical climate at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han Rivers in central China, Wuhan is a thriving metropolis of over 8 million people. Although it was founded more than 3,500 years ago, today's Wuhan offers students the resources and amenities of numerous cultural institutions, a major transportation hub, and regional centers of technology and education. Students and visitors may take advantage of Wuhan's abundant gardens and natural areas, the annual Dragon Boat festival, and the numerous museums and historical sites of the East Lake region.

Established in 1893, Wuhan University is known as one of the oldest and highest-ranked universities in China. Under the administration of the Educational Ministry of the People's Republic of China, the university offers programs in philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management. Wuhan's student population numbers over 45,000, including over 12,000 graduate students.

Pitt in Wuhan Summer Study Abroad Program:

Through the University of Pittsburgh's Study Abroad Office, Pitt undergraduates may take part in the "Pitt in Wuhan" summer study abroad program, which emphasizes study of spoken Chinese. 2008 will be the program's inaugural year, with departure from Pittsburgh scheduled for May 11th and return planned for late June.
