Brazil: More Than a Rain Forest



Objectives

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • state basic facts about Brazil's geography, culture, and history.
  • match clues about these facts and clues in a crossword puzzle.

Materials

Activities

Simpler, faster version

  1. List facts students know about Brazil as they are written on the chalkboard, chart paper, or a computer with LCD projector.
  2. Teach an introductory lesson about the country based on the information in the list of crossword puzzle clues with answers.
  3. Direct students to work individually, or in pairs, to complete the crossword puzzle.
  4. As a class, review the information adding to the chart started earlier. Encourage students to comment on facts that surprised or interested them.

Advanced version

  1. List facts they know about Brazil as they are listed on the chalkboard, chart paper, or a computer with LCD projector.
  2. In a computer lab, students, individually, or in pairs, research the sites listed above and solve the crossword puzzle. If the answers are provided, the puzzle is easier.
  3. As a class, review the answers and add facts to the list of what they already knew. Encourage students to comment on facts that surprised or interested them.
