Welcome! In the summer of 2002, the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh received Fullbright-HaysGroup Project Abroad grant to study the people, culture and history of Nicaragua. A team of twelve educators from the Pittsburgh area was selected to participate in this project. After immersing themselves in Nicaraguan life and culture for four weeks, the team returned to the United States to develop a cross-cultural resource guide for teachers that illustrates the fascinating, intriguing, and resilient nature of Nicaraguan society. This resource guide offers a broad overview on the subject of Nicaragua, designed for both social studies and Spanish language classes. It covers a variety of areas, from geography and history, to holidays, culture, communities and the arts.
Audio-visuals will, of course, extend and add depth to the material presented and their use is strongly recommended if at all possible.
