Meet the REES Staff:

Dr. Robert Hayden, Director

  • PhD, State University of New York, Anthropology
  • JD, State University of Buffalo
  • Specialization: Former Yugoslavia, Balkans
  • Languages: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian
  • Responsible for overall direction of REES activities

Dr. Bob Donnorummo, Associate Director

  • PhD, University of Pittsburgh, History
  • Specialization: Russian and Polish History, Transitions, Nationalism
  • Languages: Polish and Russian
  • Graduate student advisor, Co-Editor of the Carl Beck Papers, responsible for REES lecture series, undergraduate capitalism course, enrollment statistics and international exchange programs

Eileen O'Malley, Assistant Director

  • Responsible for budget administration, financial reporting, office management and personnel, managing editor of Carl Beck Papers

Gina Peirce, Assistant Director

  • Languages: Russian and Czech
  • Outreach program coordinator, editor of REES News and outreach newsletter, responsible for proposal writing and reporting on grant programs

Nadia Kirkov, Program Manager, Russia and Former Soviet Union

  • MA, University of Pittsburgh, Slavic Languages & Literatures
  • MA, University of Sofia, Bulgaria, Slavic Philology
  • Languages: Bulgarian, Russian, Greek, Polish
  • Undergraduate student advisor, coordinator of exchange programs with the former Soviet Union, responsible for database management, fundraising and alumni relations

Stacey Kronandor, Center Secretary

  • Enrolled in University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies; pursuing degree in Social Sciences and Political Science
  • Languages: German and Polish
  • Responsible for arranging appointments for Center employees and visitors, maintaining database, coordinating and compiling calendar of events, and assisting with general office duties. Also responsible for coordinating faculty and professional exchange programs between REES and Eastern Europe

Dr. Ilya Prizel, UCIS Research Professor of East European Studies and Professor of Political Science

  • PhD, Johns Hopkins University, Political Science
  • Specialization: Poland, Russia and Ukraine; nationalism and foreign policy
  • Languages: reading and speaking - Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, and Hebrew; reading - Spanish and German
  • Responsible for teaching in the Political Science Department

Vera Dorosh Sebulsky, Editorial Assistant

  • BA, Westminster College, English/Religion
  • Languages: Ukrainian and Russian
  • Responsible for assisting with the publication of the Carl Beck Papers, designing and printing newsletters and other publicity materials, and maintaining online information of REES activities
