Through the Bridge to Europe program and in collaboration with the School of Education, the ESC offers 3-credit pre-professional internships for Pitt undergraduates interested in secondary social studies education with a particular focus in European cultures, people, history, and contemporary issues. Preference will be given to undergraduates who are currently enrolled in one of the ESC’s certificate programs.
Under the supervision of Center staff, a graduate student in the School of Education’s Masters of Teaching program, and a School of Education faculty member, interns will develop a unit plan related to Europe or the EU suitable for secondary social studies classrooms in Pittsburgh area schools. In addition to the unit plan, interns will complete several classroom observations and reflections, co-teach three to four lessons with their MAT graduate student supervisor, and complete a portfolio detailing those teaching materials, lessons, and classroom experiences.
The ESCAPE program takes place each spring semester. Online applications begin August 28, 2017. View the application.
Applications are due by Monday, October 9, 2017. Applicants will be notified of the ESC’s decision on Friday, October 27, 2017.
