EUCE/ESC Klinzing Grant Competition
2013 EUCE/ESC Klinzing Grant Competition in European Union Studies is now closed.
The 2013 Winners have been announced!
The EUCE/ESC offers research awards to graduate students and professional school students to support their work on any aspect of post-WWII European integration. Named for the former Vice-Provost for Research, George Klinzing, these awards are designed to assist students who need to pursue their research agenda in Europe, or to participate in an internship directly related to their research interests. For advanced graduate students, these awards can be used to support dissertation write-up.
Two categories of Klinzing Grants exist. Students should apply for one or the other, but not both.
The dissertation grant will support dissertation research or the writing of a dissertation between May of 2013 and April of 2014. The competition is open to University of Pittsburgh students who have completed all required coursework, passed their comprehensive exams, and have an approved or preliminarily approved overview. Grants may be awarded for between $6,000 and $12,000. Funds may not be used to pay for tuition or health insurance. To apply.
Pre-dissertation grants average $3,000 and are available to students who have not yet completed their overview. They are aimed at helping students working on European topics to prepare their overview and thus be eligible to apply for dissertation grants from external or internal sources. They may also be used by students who wish to undertake an internship in Europe directly related to their research. Research is typically completed in the summer and recipients of these grants must complete travel before August 1, 2013. To apply.
Note: Students in History who receive awards from both the EUCE/ESC and the History Department European Dissertation and Pre-Dissertation funds, may accept only one.
The application deadline is March 1, 2013.
