Events and Conferences at the University of Pittsburgh
As an essential part of the center's mission to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and the public to learn about Europe, European integration and the European Union, The EUCE/ESC sponsors and hosts an array of scholars and practitioners for visits of varying lengths throughout the year that cover diverse topics of importance to the study of Europe. Topics range from economics, security, and policy, to multicultural issues in Europe. The EUCE/ESC also sponsors two academic and one policy conference a year. Topics have included: Promoting the rule of law, accessibility in the context of the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, and language, literature, and identity in the European Union.
The EUCE/ESC enjoys affiliations with numerous local organizations that share in the center's mission to educate the public about European Union and Europe. The center's visiting European scholars and practitioners are frequently involved in community-related lectures, panels, conferences, as well as interviews for a variety of local organizations and businesses. Some of these organizations include: The World Affairs Council, The Jewish Community Center, The History Center, and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
The EUCE/ESC regularly offers events open to the general public. Events such as lectures, films, and seminars are publicized through many different channels including the center’s monthly newsletters, weekly email updates, Pitt newspaper ads and flyers.
