Graduate Student Assistantships

Graduate Student Assistantships (GSA) are available for a limited number of students selected to work at the European Union Center of Excellence and the European Studies Center. GSAs receive a tuition remission and stipend and coverage of most of their student fees.

Interested students should inquire at the Center or with Allyson Delnore, Associate Director, well in advance of the new academic year.

EUCE/ESC Klinzing Awards

The EUCE/ESC offers research awards to graduate students and professional school students to support their work on any aspect of post-WWII European integration.  Named for the former Vice-Provost for Research George Klinzing, these awards are designed to assist students who need to pursue their research agenda on-site in Europe, or to participate in an internship directly related to their research interests.  For advanced graduate students, these awards can be used to support dissertation write-up.

Awards typically range between $7,000-$10,000 and the application requires both a full budget and, if appropriate, IRB approval.

The application deadline is March 1, 2013.

Full application guidelines to follow.

For more information please contact Allyson Delnore.

GSPIA Tuition Overage Scholarships

The EUCE/ESC offers one-credit-hour tuition scholarships for GSPIA students enrolled in either the European Union Studies Certificate or the West European Studies Certificate.  This scholarship is meant to cover the costs of the one-credit overage that often occurs when GSPIA students register for language courses to satisfy Certificate requirements.

For more information, contact Allyson Delnore.

University of Pittsburgh Opportunities

The International Studies Fund (ISF) is intended to help students at the University of Pittsburgh to conduct research on international issues or in international settings.  "International" is defined as relating to another country or culture, comparative analysis covering more than one country or culture, studies of international relations or of transnational activities, or studies which examine topics related to global issues. ISF grants may not be used for tuition, language study, internships and other non-research related expenses. Conference, workshop or symposium travel is not eligible for funding under the ISF program.

The application deadline is March 15.

Nationality Rooms Scholarships

The Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs began in 1926.  As committees completed their rooms, they turned their attention to creating study abroad scholarships.  The Nationality Rooms have awarded scholarships for summer study abroad annually since 1948.  The purpose of the awards is to enable University of Pittsburgh students to have an in-depth immersion in another culture for at least five weeks.  It is important that applicants choose a program that will maximize their contact with the populace abroad and be accepted by the University for credit.
