The EU Past and Present: Historical and Ongoing Discussions and Debates
Saturday, March 20, 2010
University of Pittsburgh

The European Union faces challenges that affect its citizens, institutions, and policy-making capabilities. This conference will highlight student research that addresses some of these broad challenges. The Organizing Committee of the Fifth Annual Graduate Student Conference on the European Union welcomes papers addressing the theme of the conference. We seek submissions from all disciplines on topics that include EU politics, governance, economics, security, and institutions; as well as EU policies including enlargement, immigration, development, trade, and transatlantic and external relations.

Abstracts should be 250-300 words in length. Preference will be given to abstracts that clearly specify the paper´s research design, including theoretical and methodological approaches. Abstracts must be e-mailed as a Word or PDF attachment. Please also include a current C.V. with your submission. Only authors enrolled in degree-granting graduate or professional programs are eligible to participate.

The University of Pittsburgh's Hillman Library now houses the largest and most complete archive of primary and secondary source documents on the European Union in the Western hemisphere, dating back to the beginnings of the ECSC. The EU Delegation Collection is a gift from the European Commission Delegation in Washington, DC. Conference presenters will be given a special opportunity to access the archive for their own research purposes.

Please submit abstracts by December 1st 2009, and any inquiries to: EUconf@pitt.edu
