Reception--Program to Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution To commemorate the 20th anniversity of the Velvet Revolution, the Czech/Slovak Community of Western Pennsylvania is hosting an event with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. The first part of the program is a first person recollection of the student demonstration on Monday, November 20, 1989 by Pavel Tyrpak. That will be followed by a screening of the film "Citizen Havel" (Obcan Havel), a documentary with behind-the-scenes footage collected during the time Vaclav Havel served as president. | ||

The European Colloqium
The European Colloquium - a research seminar related to European history, societies and culture - will resume meetings in the History Department this academic year. The group will convene about every four weeks during the academic year, usually on a Thursday afternoon, and discuss current or recently published research.

2010 Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes
The United States Department of State has announced the 2010 Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes. The on-line application at www.CLScholarships.org. Scholarships are available for Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. EU Bookshop Digital Library Goes Live
The Publications Office of the European Union has announced that their digital library has gone live. More than 12 million pages from more than 110,000 EU publications have been scanned and are available free of charge for downnload from the EU Bookshop Digital Library. The offerings are all publications edited by the Publications Office on behalf of EU institutions and other bodies since 1952. For more information, please go to:

Winners of the Undergraduate Essay Contest Announced
The winners of the undergraduate essay contest organized by the Center for Russian and East European Studies, the European Union Center of Excellence, and European Studies Center were announced Thursday November 5, 2009 at the end of the seminar "Recognizing 20 Years-The Fall of the Berlin Wall 1989-2009." First prize went to Krista Williams, second prize went to Alex Russell, and third prize went to Ravi Patel. more>>

Funded Journalism Internship Program in Berlin, Germany
