Tuition Scholarships and Stipends

    These funds are available to a limited number of students selected to serve as Graduate Student Assistants in the European Union Center of Excellence and the European Studies Center.

    Interested students should inquire at the Center well in advance of the new academic year.

Council for European Studies Fellowships

The Council for European Studies offers pre-dissertation fellowships for graduate students working on Europe.

Dissertation Fellowships in East European Studies

Financial Aid for International Students

U.S. Fulbright Program Grants for Graduate Students, Scholars and    Professionals, and Teachers and Administrators from the U.S. and other    countries.

The Fulbright program Includes country specific fellowships as well as a European Union Affairs Research Program.  The program includes one lecturing award at the College of Europe for one semester. Two awards for research in European Union Affairs or U.S.-EU relations in any of the Member States or the EU Candidates are made annually.  The application must provide a letter of invitation from the host institution.  For how to proceed with an application as a Pitt student, please contact Dr. Annagene Yucas for more information.

Hubert H. Humprey Doctoral Fellowships in Arms Control, Nonproliferation and     Disarmament

The Department of State sponsors the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowships in Arms Control, Nonproliferation and Disarmament, designed to encourage specialized training and research in the arms control field.

Internships

IREX Short Term Travel Grants

The Short-Term Travel Grants program provides fellowships for up to eight weeks to US postdoctoral scholars and holders of other graduate degrees for independent or collaborative research projects in Europe and Eurasia. Fellowships are available to applicants who demonstrate how their research will make a substantive contribution to knowledge of the contemporary political, economic, historical, or cultural developments in the region and how such knowledge is relevant to US foreign policy. The US Department of State Title VIII Program, the primary source of support for the STG Program, supports research topics that strengthen the fields of Eurasian and East European studies, and that address US foreign policy interests in the region, broadly defined. Historical or cultural research that promotes understanding of current events in the region is acceptable if an explicit connection is made to policy relevant issues, broadly defined.

National Science Foundation

The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds research and education in most fields of science and engineering, including the social, behavioral and economic sciences.  The NSF provides direct funding for graduate students as well as links to other programs that provide similar funding

Norwegian Nobel Institute Fellowships

The Norwegian Nobel Institute awards a limited number of fellowships in its guest researcher program. Senior and young scholars in history, social sciences, and international law of any nationality are welcome to apply

Up Professional Development Fellowships, Institute of International Education

Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program

The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program is a 9-month program that enables 20 young American professionals to acquire a high-level, in-depth understanding of the political, economic, and cultural environment of Germany and the European Union.

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships

The Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program is Ambassadorial Scholarships, established in 1947. Since that time, more than 30,000 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. Today, the Ambassadorial Scholarships Program of The Rotary Foundation is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. More than 1,200 scholarships were awarded for study in 2000-01. Through grants totaling approximately US$26 million, recipients from some 69 countries will study in more than 64 different nations.
