The Friedl E. Kessler Memorial Fellowship
To help defray the costs of studying abroad, the European Studies Center offers the Kessler Fellowship for study or research in Germany. The award is offered to a University of Pittsburgh Oakland Campus undergraduate student in the amount of $1,000 on a competitive basis. To be eligible to apply, the student must be studying German and have at least a 3.0 QPA. In addition, the student must be enrolled in the West European Studies or European Union Studies Certificate Program.
Applications are now available at the European Studies Center, or by clicking here. Included with the application must be two letters of recommendation (one must be from the German department), a transcript, and a one-page statement of purpose.
The deadline to apply is March 15, 2010.

Mark Nordenberg Internship Abroad Scholarships
Scholarship Information
The Mark Nordenberg Internship Abroad Scholarships are offered through the European Studies Center/European Union Center of Excellence, and are available to students planning an internship in Europe. Three awards of $1,500.00 are given each academic year.
While preference will be given to students who belong to the European Union or West European Studies Certificate Programs, any student is welcome to apply.
All types of internship are eligible. Whether it’s part of a study abroad program or not, for credit or not, the only thing to keep in mind is that it must be relevant to your major or pre-professional program, and be at least 6 weeks in length.

DAAD Study Abroad Scholarships

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers awards to highly qualified undergraduate students for study abroad, university language or summer courses, senior thesis research and/or internships in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Davis-Putter Scholarships
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to those able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. Davis-Putter scholars are both graduate and undergraduate students and must be enrolled in an accredited school and receiving college credit for the time period covered by their grant. Students may apply directly for the scholarship and the deadline is usually April 1.
Gilman Scholarship (Study Abroad)

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. For the Fall/Academic Year, the application deadline is April 15 and for the spring term, the deadline is September 22. This scholarship does not offer funding for summer study abroad programs.
Scandinavia Study Abroad Scholarship

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships (up to $18,000) and grants (normally $3,000) to individuals to pursue research or study in one or more Scandinavian country for up to one year. Awards are made in all fields. The application deadline is typically November 1. Please consult the website for the most updated information.
Target Scholarships

Target awards over six hundred All-Around Scholarships each year — including one $25,000 scholarship — to high school seniors and college students age 24 and younger. Scholarships recognize volunteer work as well as academic achievement, encouraging students to show us true enlightenment goes beyond what can be learned from textbooks. Congress-Bundestag Young Professionals Exchange (Germany)

The program is intended for candidates pursuing business, technical, agricultural, or vocational careers. The deadline for each program year is the preceding December 1st.

Grants are provided for research abroad, travel abroad, and teaching abroad. Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship
