The purpose of this conference is to exchange information on the public policies aimed at managing risks in the shale sector in the US and in other countries that are exploring shale development, including the UK, China, South Africa, Argentina and Poland. Presenters from France and Germany will also discuss the decisions of those countries to limit shale development and the consequences and opportunity costs of those decisions. Discussion among presenters and the audience will focus on the current evidence on risks and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies. We will also discuss the need to fill informational gaps in order to understand the risks and to innovate risk management strategies in the shale industry.
