What are the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and why do they matter for the University of Pittsburgh? The world's best-known development economist and advocate, Jeffrey Sachs, will lead a wide-ranging discussion about the purpose and process of crafting a unified vision for the future at home and abroad. A central tenet of the SDGs is that development is a shared responsibility and that all states are responsible for achieving measurable progress toward them. In an international climate of growing inequality, growing populist nationalism, and growing controversy over migration and social solidarity, prospects for development in richer and poorer nations alike are uncertain. Please join Professor Sachs for a discussion with Pitt faculty experts about the purpose and process of Sustainable Development Goals, and discuss questions about the role the SDGs can play in the transformation of Pittsburgh and other cities and in the globalization of universities like Pitt.
