Internal Funding Opportunities

Travel Grants

GSC Domestic Travel Grants

Eligibility: Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non-tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers and contract faculty) who are Global Studies affiliated faculty are eligible (please see the GSC Affiliated Faculty list). If you are not listed and your research and teaching foci relate at least 25 percent to the GSC’s themes and use a trans-regional, comparative or interdisciplinary approach to critical global issues within the areas of the economy, health, security and society, please contact Thomas Allen (tfa3@pitt.edu) to request a GSC affiliated faculty form. The affiliated faculty form must be submitted and a letter of acceptance received prior to submission of the application for funding. 
Purpose: To provide funding for faculty to attend conferences or professional meetings within the United States for the purpose of increasing expertise in fields of study related to the GSC foci (global society, global economy, global health or global security).
Amount of Funding: A maximum of $500 per grant.
Deadline: December 10, 2012
Application: Complete the GSC Faculty Grant form (Word/PDF), check off the appropriate grant option and provide the requested documentation. Refer to GSC Domestic Travel Grant guidelines when completing the grant form.

GSC International Travel Grants for Conference and Professional Meetings

Eligibility: Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non-tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers and contract faculty) who are Global Studies affiliated faculty are eligible (please see the GSC Affiliated Faculty list). If you are not listed and your research and teaching foci relate at least 25 percent to the GSC’s themes and use a trans-regional, comparative or interdisciplinary approach to critical global issues within the areas of the economy, health, security and society, please contact Thomas Allen (tfa3@pitt.edu) to request a GSC affiliated faculty form. The affiliated faculty form must be submitted and a letter of acceptance received prior to submission of the application for funding.
Purpose: To provide funding for faculty to attend international conferences or to travel with the purpose of designing a new course or expand an existing course that is transregional or comparative and relates to the GSC foci (global society, global economy, global health or global security).
Amount of Funding: A maximum of $1000 per grant.
Deadline: December 10, 2012

Curriculum Development Grants

GSC Curriculum Development Grants 

Eligibility: Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non-tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers and contract faculty) who are Global Studies affiliated faculty are eligible (please see the GSC Affiliated Faculty list). If you are not listed and your research and teaching foci relate at least 25 percent to the GSC’s themes and use a trans-regional, comparative or interdisciplinary approach to critical global issues within the areas of the economy, health, security and society, please contact Thomas Allen (tfa3@pitt.edu) to request a GSC affiliated faculty form. The affiliated faculty form must be submitted and a letter of acceptance received prior to submission of the application for funding.
Purpose: To provide funding for faculty to create a new course or significantly enhance an existing course with substantial coverage of one or more of the GSC foci (global economy, global health, global security, global society).
Amount of Funding: A maximum of $2,000 per grant.
Deadline: December 10, 2012

New CERIS Curriculum Development Grants

The CERIS grant program is designed to enable faculty from member institutions to pursue curricular development and enhancement projects related to Islamic Studies. Applications are accepted year-round, and awards are made twice yearly (fall and spring). Learn more >

Research Grants

Global Academic Partnership (GAP)

The Global Academic Partnership (GAP), first launched in fall of 2001, is an initiative of the Global Studies Center at the University Center for International Studies, and the Office of the Provost at the University of Pittsburgh. It aims to strengthen interdisciplinary research and curriculum development on global themes at Pitt, while enhancing international scholarly ties at the University of Pittsburgh and raising the itnernational profile of the Institution.
