Events
Each term Global Studies sponsors a wide range of events to stimulate intellectual discussion and debate on critical global issues. Open to students, faculty, and the public, these events draw interdisciplinary audiences and help forge networks among those interested in global issues that are at the heart of the Global Studies program: Sustainable Development; Global Economy and Global Governance; Changing Identities in a Global World; Communication, Technology, and Society; International Conflict and Conflict Resolution; and Global Health. In addition to co-sponsored special events and conferences, we coordinate the following:
- Lecture Series -- Throughout the academic year we sponsor speakers expert in cross-disciplinary and trans-regional issues, and host special events inclucing an annual Global Studies Colloquium.
- Film Series -- Each semester we host a series of films related to one of our global concentrations. Check our upcoming events calendar for specifics.
- Hot Topics Over Coffee -- At 3 p.m. on the last Friday of every month (fall and spring terms) there's energetic networking and meaty discussions about critical world issues served up with steaming espresso. Students and faculty are welcome.
- International Week -- Each year this event crams globally related academic and cultural events into seven full days of opportunities: festivals, lectures, film, music, food, workshops, and demonstrations. Read more about International Week.
- Student Research Symposium -- Annual competition open to students in any major from any Pitt campus. Cash awards are presented to the best undergraduate and graduate research papers written for a University of Pittsburgh course. Read about symposium details.
- Global Academic Partnership (GAP) -- This program supports research conferences and workshops that are interdisciplinary and related to one of our six area concentrations. Learn about GAP application information.
- Portable International Lecture System (PILS) -- Offers video of selected events.
