Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Offices of Student Employment and Placement Assistance has provided us with a presentation on internationally focused job searching which can be accessed here.

The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

Amnesty International	Founded in London in 1961, Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with over 1.8 million members worldwide. Amnesty International undertakes research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.	view
Amnesty International USA	Amnesty International's mission is to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. It investigates and expose abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and helps transform societies to create a safer, more just world. Amnesty International received the Nobel Peace Prize for its life-saving work.	view
Appalachian Mountain Club	AMC's projects focus on the construction of new trails in Acadia National Park, Maine; a canoe portage trail in Baxter State Park, Maine, bog bridge construction in New Hampshire's White mountains, and reconstruction of Appalachian Trail in western Massachusetts. Volunteers build, maintain and repair trails.	view

Asian Studies Center	The Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh has been designated since 1988 as an undergraduate National Resource Center in East Asian Studies by the U.S. Department of Education. This identifies the center as being among the best and most comprehensive in the country in research, public service, and teaching about East Asia.	view
Association for Progressive Communications	APC’s mission is to empower and support organizations, social movements and individuals in and through the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to build strategic communities and initiatives for the purpose of making meaningful contributions to equitable human development, social justice, participatory political processes and environmental sustainability.	view
Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs	The Belfer Center is the hub of the Harvard Kennedy School's research, teaching, and training in international security affairs, environmental and resource issues, and science and technology policy.	view
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program	The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.	view
Bikes Not Bombs (BNB)	Bikes Not Bombs promotes bicycle technology as a concrete alternative to war and environmental destruction. For 25 years, BNB has been a nexus of bike recycling and community empowerment both in lower income neighborhoods of Boston and in the nations of the Global South. BNB's programs involve young people and adults in mutually respectful leadership development and environmental stewardship, while recycling thousands of bicycles.	view
Bread for the World	Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our America's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, they provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities in which we live.	view
Brethren Volunter Service	BVS is a program grounded in the Christian faith that brings a spiritual dimension to advocating justice, working for peace, serving basic human needs, and maintaining the integrity of creation. Volunteers are involved in a variety of community services: education, health care, office and construction work. A college degree or equivalent life experience is required for overseas assignments. Travel expenses, room and board, medical coverage, and a monthly stipend are provided.	view

Brother's Brother Foundation	The Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) promotes international health and education through the efficient and effective distribution and provision of donated medical, educational, agricultural and other resources.	view
Campaign for Peace and Democracy	The Campaign for Peace and Democracy is dedicated to advancing a new, progressive and non-militaristic U.S. foreign policy -- one that encourages democracy and social justice by promoting solidarity with activists and progressive movements throughout the world. It stands in opposition to existing U.S. foreign policy, which is based on domination, militarism, fear of popular struggles, enforcement of an inequitable and cruel global economy, and -- despite the democratic rhetoric -- persistent support for authoritarian regimes.	view

Carter Center	The Carter Center, in partnership with Emory University, is committed to advancing human rights and alleviating unnecessary human suffering. Founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, the Atlanta-based Center has helped to improve the quality of life for people in more than 70 countries.	view
Carter Center	The Carter Center is a nonprofit NGO devoted to advancing peace and human rights worldwide. Founded by former president Jimmy Carter in 1982, the organization has implemented projects to advance peace and health in more than sixty five nations. Areas of specialty include human rights, conflict resolution, Latin American and Caribbean affairs, democratization and election monitoring, food production and disease prevention.	view
Catholic Charities	Catholic Charities is the primary social service agency of the Diocese of Pittsburgh serving all regardless of religious affiliation, at their time of greatest need. Assists with the resettlement of refugees in SW PA.	view
