Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

Quest: Volunteers for Haiti	Quest: Volunteers for Haiti, a volunteer program sponsored by the Religious of Jesus and Mary, offers yearlong and summer opportunities in Gros Morne and Jean Rabel, Haiti. Volunteers share simple living with two or three members of Religious of Jesus and Mary while serving the poor in a variety of agricultural, medical, and educational ministries.	view

Rand Corporation, Pittsburgh Office	The RAND Corporation is a nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decisionmaking through research and analysis. RAND focuses on the issues that matter most such as health, education, national security, international affairs, law and business, the environment, and more. With a research staff consisting of some of the world's preeminent minds, RAND has been expanding the boundaries of human knowledge for more than 60 years. Red Cross Southwest PA	The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.	view
Regional Internship Center of Southwestern PA	The Regional Internship Center of southwestern PA (RIC), which began in 2003, brokers connections between internship seekers and employers throughout the region. Through targeted outreach and training, the RIC enables internship seekers and employers to explore working together to determine whether they are a good fit for a long-term employment relationship.	view

Resources for the Future, Inc.	RFF is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that conducts independent research – rooted primarily in economics and other social sciences – on environmental, energy, natural resource and public health issues.	view
Rethinking Tourism Project	Because tourism is considered the largest industry in the world, Rethinking Tourism Project develops community education about tourism and constructs a global network of Indigenous and non-Indigenous support groups to share information and resources. The environmental, cultural, social and economic impacts of tourism development reverberate in communities around the world, but increasingly target Indigenous peoples often without their full participation, management or ownership. Interns are required to commit a minimum of 8-15 hours per week for three months.	view

Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program	The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program is a distinguished transatlantic initiative that each year offers twenty accomplished young Americans the opportunity to complete a high-level professional development program in Germany. Over the course of a nine-month program, Bosch Fellows complete two work phases at leading German institutions, both customized to each fellow's professional expertise, and attend three seminars with key decision-makers from the public and private sectors, taking place across Europe. Sally Yudelman Internship at WOLA	WOLA’s Yudelman Internship Program works to give interns a broad exposure to the foreign policy-making process and aims to familiarize its interns with current events in Latin America through regular meetings with our staff and by attending NGO coalition meetings, congressional hearings, and other discussions and events. In addition, throughout the semester, interns will have a series of brown bag lunch discussions with representatives from different sectors that interact with the NGO world, such as foundations, governments, and multilateral institutions.	view

Seeds of Peace	Seeds of Peace is dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. The Seeds of Peace camp is located in Maine, USA.	view
Service Civil International-International Voluntary Service	SCI is a voluntary service organization and peace movement with 37 branches and 45 partners worldwide. SCI organizes international volunteer projects all over the world in the belief that if people with different backgrounds and cultures learn to cooperate and work together, peace can be the result. SCI organizes both short term and long term projects in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the US.	view
Servicio Internacional para la Paz (SIPAZ)	Organized at the invitation of Mexican church and human rights groups, SIPAZ is a coalition of North American, Latin American, and European organizations dedicated to supporting the peace process in Chiapas, and increasingly in Oaxaca and Guerrero. SIPAZ seeks long term volunteers to help carry out work, which includes developing and maintaining relationships with groups and individuals concerned in the conflict, monitoring formal talks and independent initiatives, preparing updates and analysis on the ongoing peace process, and designing workshops on nonviolence.	view
Sin Fronteras (Without Borders)	Sin Fronteras, or Without Borders, is a non-profit, civil Mexican organization. It attends to the problem of migration and of refugees from an integrated vision so as to guarantee respect for human rights and improve the life conditions of migrants, refugees, and their families. It does so through promotions, defense, social and legal support, education, raising awareness, building relationships, and participating in the development of legislation, policies, and migratory programs.	view
SKeyes media	From its head office in Beirut and through its network of correspondents, SKeyes activities cover four Middle Eastern countries: Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. The center’s website (www.skeyesmedia.org) publishes information and reports on press and cultural freedom in these four countries. Ultimately, SKeyes aims to cover the entire Arab world. 2 Goals:	view
Spanish Ministry of Education and Science North American Language and Culture	The Assistants receive a grant in Spain to provide support to the English or French teachers in language and culture classes. The recipients of this grant will have the opportunity to learn about the Spanish language and culture, an invaluable experience upon their return to the United States or Canada, developing a deeper cultural understanding between the citizens of Spain and the United States of America and Canada.The Spanish Regional Offices of Education assign each individual candidate a position in an Elementary or Secondary School.	view
Student Conservation Association	SCA offers internships in over 50 disciplines throughout the US. If you are 18 or older and want to make a difference, serving with SCA offers many benefits to you and the world. Conservation Internships are 3 - 12 month expense-paid opportunities to preserve environmental and cultural resources.	view
Student Environmental Action Coalition	The Student Environmental Action Coalition or SEAC is a grassroots coalition of student and youth environmental groups, working together to protect our planet and our future. Through this united effort, thousands of youth have translated their concern into action by sharing resources, building coalitions, and challenging the limited mainstream definition of environmental issues.	view
Study Abroad Office, University of Pittsburgh	Founded in 1981, the Study Abroad Office develops programs and facilitates educational experiences in over 100 countries. Study abroad affords students the opportunity to engage in a unique, credit-worthy learning experience and to develop as global citizens. In specific, the office develops programs, monitors academic quality and assesses the learning outcomes of study abroad, maintains an efficient and supportive process for students to study abroad and contributes to national initiatives as a leader in the field of international education.	view
Su Espacio	Su Espacio is a community center in Atenas Costa Rica that offers olunteer opportunities volunteer opportunities, placements for home-stays, dance, fitness and music classes, English and Spanish classes, help buying or renting a house, and finding suitable schools.	view
Sustain US	SustainUS is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization of young people advancing sustainable development and youth empowerment in the United States. Through proactive education and advocacy at the policy-making and grassroots levels, they strive to build a future in which all people recognize the inherent equality and interdependence of social, economic, and environmental sustainability.	view
Swanson School of Engineering International Programs	Engineers need to be aware of the world, and must develop skills that allow them to work effectively in a global context. The programs offered allow students to learn more about what it means to practice engineering on a global scale.	view
