Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Offices of Student Employment and Placement Assistance has provided us with a presentation on internationally focused job searching which can be accessed here.
The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

In 2003 ECO established the Conservation Careers Diversity Internship Program to focus on providing exposure, training, and mentoring to students of color in the natural resource and conservation fields. The Conservation Careers Diversity Internship Program is working with the Forest Service’s Multicultural Workforce Strategy Initiatives (MWSI) to recruit diverse students who are pursuing natural resource, environmental, conservation, and related science degrees. The international schools affiliated with the Department of State are independent, non-government institutions. Since they are not controlled by the U.S. government nor do they operate under any official administrative jurisdictional umbrella, they hire teachers and staff directly, establishing their own qualification standards and application procedures. | USAK INTERNSHIP AND TRAINING PROGRAM |
The USAK Internship and Training Program aims to expand USAK’s range of activities and improve the abilities and expertise of the participants. Participants contribute to USAK’s activities with their particular studies. USAK’s goal is to train good researchers in certain fields and improve their analytical abilities and help them to think critically. Upon completion of the program, interns will have gained a great deal of experience while putting their knowledge to use, gaining access to resources, and further developing their reading and writing skills. |
