Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Offices of Student Employment and Placement Assistance has provided us with a presentation on internationally focused job searching which can be accessed here.
The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

Participants on this program complete unpaid internships in companies or organizations in Buenos Aires or Cordoba. |

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals is a full-year work-study scholarship program with a strong focus on cultural exchange. CBYX annually provides 75 young Americans with an understanding of everyday life, education, and professional training in Germany. The program begins in July and includes two months of intensive German language training in Germany (no prior German language knowledge required), four months of classroom instruction at a German university or college of applied sciences, and a five-month internship in a participant’s career field. |

CENZONTLE is a rural development program in Nicaragua that helps agricultural cooperatives survive the dire economic crisis, which Nicaragua is currently experiencing. Its longer-term objective is capacity building and empowerment of cooperative members in order to achieve sustained economic growth and to build enduring local democratic structures. It has an integrated approach to development encompassing five major areas of work: credit, feasibility studies, legal aid, marketing, and training/adult education. |

CEDUAM (Environmental Education and Ecological Action Center) is a non-profit, environmental organization located in northern Tlaxcala state, in the heart of México. Much of CEDUAM's work takes place in the municipal area of Tlaxco, which has among the most deficient and depleted natural resources in the country. | Children's Creative Response to Conflict |
The mission of Creative Response to Conflict, Inc. and Children's Creative Response to Conflict (CCRC) is to help educators, parents and those who work with young people learn creative skills of non-violent conflict resolution through cooperation, communication, affirmation, problem solving, mediation and bias awareness. The board and staff of CCRC work on modeling these approaches and will continue to adapt techniques to meet the challenges of an increasingly violent world by working locally and globally to achieve a non-violent and just world. |

| Christian Peacemaker Teams |
CPT placeas teams of international volunteers in conflict settings as a violence reduction presence. CPT is cross denominational with strong roots grounded in the Quakers, Mennonites, and Church of the Brethren. Teams of four to twelve persons join the efforts of local peacemakers facing imminent violence. They accompany threatened individuals, report on human rights abuses, plan and execute nonviolent public responses to injustice, and train others in nonviolent direct action. |
