Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Offices of Student Employment and Placement Assistance has provided us with a presentation on internationally focused job searching which can be accessed here.
The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

EarthCorps training is ideal for any individual interested in community empowerment, erosion control, reforestation, ecotourism development; and youth outreach. |

An organization legally recognized by the Government of Ecuador, which was constituted through the ministerial agreement No.0350 on October 10, 2005. | ESPWA |
ESPWA has welcomed volunteers since 1996 to assist in the endeavors of organizations working for sustainable communities. ESPWA's current focus is on organic agriculture and assistance to small organic farmers. Volunteers are usually headquartered in the Commonwealth of Dominica. Projects generally last from one to three weeks for short term stays. Longer term projects also available. |

| Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting |
FAIR, is a national media watch group, offering criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986. As a progressive group, FAIR believes that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information. FAIR has openings each semester for volunteer student interns interested in media research, publicity, magazine and radio production. |

FOR seeks to replace violence, war, racism, and economic injustice with nonviolence, peace, and justice. They are an interfaith organization committed to active nonviolence as a transforming way of life and as a means of radical change. FOR educates, trains, builds coalitions, and engages in nonviolent and compassionate actions locally, nationally, and globally. |

Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center (FIAC) is a not-for-profit legal services organization whose mission is to protect and promote the basic human rights of immigrants of all nationalities. It serves the ever-growing and ever-changing needs of Florida's large immigrant population by providing both free direct legal services to individuals and impact advocacy work to address broader issues that will result in improved treatment for immigrants. This holistic approach is unique in the immigration field in Florida and in much of the nation. |

FSD's nonprofit model gives 100% of grants received to the communities they service. | Fourth World Movement |
Fourth World Movement is a network of people in poverty and those from other backgrounds who work in partnership towards overcoming the exclusion and injustice of persistent poverty. Projects focus on the sharing of knowledge among people of different backgrounds in an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity. Fourth World Movement then seeks out and creates forums where the voice and experience of those in poverty can influence public opinion and policy. A corps of full-time, long-term volunteers spearheads this work, but relies on members from all walks of life. |

| Friedl E. Kessler Memorial Fellowship |
To help defray the costs of studying abroad, the European Studies Center offers the Kessler Fellowship for study or research in Germany. The award is offered to a University of Pittsburgh Oakland Campus undergraduate student in the amount of $1,000 on a competitive basis. To be eligible to apply, the student must be studying German and have at least a 3.0 QPA. In addition, the student must be enrolled in the West European Studies or European Union Studies Certificate Program. |
