Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Offices of Student Employment and Placement Assistance has provided us with a presentation on internationally focused job searching which can be accessed here.
The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

| Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI) |
The Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI) Internship Program seeks rising college seniors and graduate students of the highest caliber with interest in the fields of, but not limited to, international studies, defense, national security, democracy and human rights, political science, and foreign affairs. FPI interns are given substantial work in current events research, policy communication, and think tank operations. Interns are encouraged to attend stimulating discussions around the local D.C. area and to interact closely with FPI's in-house experts. |

| Foundation for Sustainable Development |
FSD has provided technical training, funding and human resourceful to nearly 200 NGOs and grass roots organizations in Latin America, East Africa, and India. FSD's nonprofit model gives 100% of grants received to the communities they service. FSD believes that sustainable development is a dynamic profess that must interweave pragmatism with cultural awareness. |

| Fourth World Movement |
Fourth World Movement is a network of people in poverty and those from other backgrounds who work in partnership towards overcoming the exclusion and injustice of persistent poverty. Projects focus on the sharing of knowledge among people of different backgrounds in an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity. Fourth World Movement then seeks out and creates forums where the voice and experience of those in poverty can influence public opinion and policy. A corps of full-time, long-term volunteers spearheads this work, but relies on members from all walks of life. |

| Freeman-Asia Program |
Freeman-ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) is designed to support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of Americans with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures. Award recipients are required to share their experiences with their home campuses or communities to encourage study abroad by others and fulfill the program's goal of increasing understanding of Asia in the United States. |

| French Ministry of Education Teaching Assistantship |
The Teaching Assistant Program in France offers you the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages. Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion. |

| Friedl E. Kessler Memorial Fellowship |
To help defray the costs of studying abroad, the European Studies Center offers the Kessler Fellowship for study or research in Germany. The award is offered to a University of Pittsburgh Oakland Campus undergraduate student in the amount of $1,000 on a competitive basis. To be eligible to apply, the student must be studying German and have at least a 3.0 QPA. In addition, the student must be enrolled in the West European Studies or European Union Studies Certificate Program. |

| German Academic Exchange Service |
DAAD is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. We offer programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, providing financial support to over 67,000 individuals per year. We also represent the German higher education system abroad, promote Germany as an academic and research destination, and help build ties between institutions around the world. |

Global Links is an organization in Pittsburgh that provides much needed medical supplies to countries in need all over the world. They recover unused medical supplies, surplus equipment and furnishings from the U.S. health care system for distribution to hospitals and clinics that serve the poorest segments of the population in developing countries. What sets them apart is the care they go through to send only items that can be readily used by the recipients. |

A non-profit organization that focuses on service learning and overseas volunteer programs and international internships in Thailand, Cambodia and Tanzania. International stays range from 2 week Introductions to Service Learning, 4-6 week Short-term Volunteer Abroad Assignments and 9 Week to 6 month International Internships and Overseas Volunteer Assignments. Global Service Corps’ mission is to design and implement volunteer vacation and service-learning community development programs that benefit the volunteers and positively impact the communities they serve. |
