Welcome to the Global Guide, a site to begin the search for scholarships for research and study abroad, volunteer and internship opportunities, and employment in Pittsburgh, the U.S. or abroad. You can also find reference material on global topics at many of the sites listed. We’ve noted where Global Studies Alumni are working and our office will provide alumni contact information when requested. The Offices of Student Employment and Placement Assistance has provided us with a presentation on internationally focused job searching which can be accessed here.
The Global Studies office has a copy of: Careers in International Affairs, 8th Edition (2008), Georgetown University Press, Washington DC Alternatives to the Peace Corps: A Guide to Global Volunteering, 12th Edition, (2008), Institute for Food and Development Policy, Food First Books, Oakland CA The books can be loaned out for 3 hours at a time. Students will have to leave their student ID as a deposit.

| Global Links |
Global Links is an organization in Pittsburgh that provides much needed medical supplies to countries in need all over the world. They recover unused medical supplies, surplus equipment and furnishings from the U.S. health care system for distribution to hospitals and clinics that serve the poorest segments of the population in developing countries. What sets them apart is the care they go through to send only items that can be readily used by the recipients. |

A non-profit organization that focuses on service learning and overseas volunteer programs and international internships in Thailand, Cambodia and Tanzania. International stays range from 2 week Introductions to Service Learning, 4-6 week Short-term Volunteer Abroad Assignments and 9 Week to 6 month International Internships and Overseas Volunteer Assignments. Global Service Corps’ mission is to design and implement volunteer vacation and service-learning community development programs that benefit the volunteers and positively impact the communities they serve. |

| Hands for Help Nepal |
Hands for Help Nepal is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that sends volunteers to various projects in Nepal. Currently, Hands for Help Nepal provides volunteer opportunities that include teaching in schools, assisting orphanages and community health clinics, teaching English in a Buddhist monastery, school constriction and renovation and teaching environmental awareness. Programs last from one to five months. |

IWM seeks a new economic, social and political order promoting justice and solidarity. Missionaries work with homeless women and children and indigenous peoples performing services that may include human rights work, health care, clinic/hospice ministry and pastoral ministry.
