Global Village Living Learning Community

Global Village is a special opportunity for incoming freshman who have a genuine interest in engaging in an international perspective but who do not necessarily have  extensive knowledge on global issues. Students living in the Global village will interact regularly with University faculty and invited guests. Programs will explore critical global issues by blending perspectives from popular culture, historical contexts, and current issues. Living in the Global Village will provide opportunities for students to broaden their experience beyond the classroom and explore issues critical to becoming globally educated citizens.

Obligations and Application Process

Global Village Community members must commit themselves to uphold the spirit of this internationally focused community. Students are the foundation of the program and its success depends upon their ability and willingness to interact and function as a community, initiate and attend activities, and serve on the Global Village planning steering committee. In particular, Global Village students agree to...

  • attend five forums and one Global Village community planning meeting per term.
  • adhere to the Global Village Student Agreement Statement
  • if a returning student, maintain a minimum 2.5 QPA.

To apply for the Global Village, students must complete two different applications:

1) Electronic University Housing/Dining Services Contract, by the due date stamped on your information packet (sent by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid after they have received your tuition deposit). When asked to indicate your housing preferences, you must indicate the residence halls in which you would like to live in the event that you are not admitted into the Global Village. In other words, you must list your back-up housing preferences. If you have questions about the Housing/Dining Services contract, you may contact Panther Central at www.pc.pitt.edu, 412-648-1100, or pc@bc.pitt.edu.

2) Global Village online application, by May 15. Please note, however, that places in the Global Village are filled on a first come, first served basis, so don't delay!
