Organizations Friedl E. Kessler Memorial Fellowship

To help defray the costs of studying abroad, the European Studies Center offers the Kessler Fellowship for study or research in Germany. The award is offered to a University of Pittsburgh Oakland Campus undergraduate student in the amount of $1,000 on a competitive basis. To be eligible to apply, the student must be studying German and have at least a 3.0 QPA. In addition, the student must be enrolled in the West European Studies or European Union Studies Certificate Program.

Organizations CDS International

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals is a full-year work-study scholarship program with a strong focus on cultural exchange. CBYX annually provides 75 young Americans with an understanding of everyday life, education, and professional training in Germany. The program begins in July and includes two months of intensive German language training in Germany (no prior German language knowledge required), four months of classroom instruction at a German university or college of applied sciences, and a five-month internship in a participant’s career field.

Organizations Mediators Beyond Borders

" Mediators Beyond Borders is a non-profit, humanitarian organization established to partner with communities worldwide to build their conflict resolution capacity for preventing, resolving and healing from conflict. This partnership involves the design and implementation of sustainable peace building initiatives responsive to the needs and culture of the communities, and to the history of each conflict. MBB is not a first responder, and is not prepared to intervene in the midst of violent crises. Mediators Beyond Borders interprets ""beyond borders"" broadly.

Organizations Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Latin American Program

The Latin American Program and its institutes on Mexico and Brazil serve as a bridge between the United States and Latin America, providing a nonpartisan forum for experts from throughout the region and the world to discuss the most critical issues facing the Hemisphere. The Program sponsors research, conferences, and publications aimed at deepening the understanding of Latin American and Caribbean politics, history, economics, culture, and U.S.-Latin American relations.

The Americas region has continued to play an important role in the growth of the organization since the founding of the Trickle Up Program in the Caribbean. Beginning in 1979 with the first ten businesses in Dominica, Trickle Up has provided seed capital to help launch or expand 23,620 business in the Americas alone. In 2001, Trickle Up helped start 1,780 businesses in eight countries: Bolivia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Peru.
