Graduate Financial Aid

The Indo-Pacific Council has several awards available to University of Pittsburgh undergraduate and graduate students. Please see the following information for more details:

Undergraduate Student Awards

The purpose of this award is to provide funding for undergraduate students conducting research on the INPAC region. Awards will be approximately $500-$1,000 depending on the quality and number of requests. Students must be enrolled in an approved degree program at the University of Pittsburgh. Awards must be used in conjunction with a specific research project on the INPAC region.

Application: The application consists of a one-page research project proposal and research budget summarizing the applicant's specific plans for use of the award. On a separate sheet of paper, list your name; address; phone number; e-mail address; major department; degree sought; advisor's name and phone number. Awards will be determined by the INPAC Executive Committee. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS SUNDAY, MARCH 18, 2013. Submit the completed application form and supporting materials via email to:

Graduate Student Conference Participation Grant


This grant provides partial support for graduate students to travel to a professional conference and present a paper on the INPAC region. Priority is given to first time applicants. The maximum amount is $500 for international travel and $250 for domestic travel. Applications should be submitted BEFORE the conference takes place. APPLICATION DEADLINES: January 30, 2013 and April 1, 2013. Application materials should ALL be submitted on-line to Andrew Weintraub at nmajumda@pitt.edu and should include:

*A cover letter that briefly explains:

(a) the name of the conference you will attend,
(b) paper title, panel title, and a brief abstract of the paper,
(c) evidence that the paper has been accepted for presentation (if this is not available on-line, please submit a photocopy).

*A brief letter of support from applicant’s main academic advisor. Please remind your faculty advisor to submit the recommendation on-line.
