FOR FACULTY

Hewlett International Grant Program

Application Form [pdf] [rtf]

The Hewlett International Grant Program is intended to help University faculty in the development or completion of international projects requiring a somewhat larger effort than available through the Small Grant Program. "International" is defined as relating to another country or culture, comparative analysis covering more than one country or culture, studies of international relations or of transnational activities, or studies which examine topics related to global issues. Hewlett International Grant proposals are reviewed by a faculty committee. Grants are awarded twice per year.

Eligibility

Full-time and part time tenure-stream, tenured and non tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers and contract faculty) at the University of Pittsburgh from all Schools and Departments, Centers, Institutes and Campuses are eligible to submit a proposal. Adjunct, visiting and emeritus faculty are not eligible.

In the case of conference travel, the applying faculty must be a presenter at the conference or workshop in order to qualify for funding.

Important: Only one application for UCIS central funds per project and faculty member is allowed. Dual grant applications for the same project to different central UCIS grant programs (UCIS Small Grant Program, Hewlett International Grant Program, Research Abroad Program) are not permitted. Only one Hewlett International award per faculty and fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) is allowed.

Amount of Grant

Funds typically range between $500 and $2,500, and rarely exceed $2,500. Because of the limited availability of funds, smaller requests may be more likely to be funded. Grants awarded in the spring round must be used by June 30 of the next calendar year. Grants awarded in the fall round must be used by December 31 of the next calendar year.
