Alumnus Ohjoon Kwon Receives James. A. Van Fleet Award
The Swanson School of Engineering’s alumnus Ohjoon Kwon received the prestigious James A. Van Fleet Award at The Korea Society’s Annual Dinner in New York on May 18, 2016. The Van Fleet Award recognizes the outstanding contributions of leaders in Korean and American society who promote friendly relations between the United States and Korea. Mr. Kwon is Chairman and CEO of Korea-based POSCO, a multinational steel-making company.
Former recipients of the Van Fleet Award include former US President Jimmy Carter, Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon, and General Colin Powell as well as ambassadors and business people from both countries.
The award is named for General James A. Van Fleet, Commander of the US Eighth Army at the height of the Korean War in 1951. Beginning in 1957, General Van Fleet served as the first president of The Korea Society.
