George Klinzing Honored by Central University in Quito

Swanson School of Engineering Professor George E. Klinzing received a Homenaje from the Central University in Quito (CUQ) in Ecuador on September 22, 2015.  The Homenaje—or homage—was presided over by Dr. Humberto Gonzalez, Dean of the Engineering Faculty, and Dr. Aguirre, Vice Rector, at CUQ. Professor Klinzing received two citations and commemorative medals in recognition of his contributions to the academic success of students and the university during his more than 50-year relationship with the Central University in Quito.

As part of the Homenaje celebration, Professor Klinzing delivered two seminars to a full house of 250 faculty and students.  The seminars were “Novedoso, Raros y Nuevos Videos y Fotos en Transporte Neumático” and “Algunos Nuevas Temas en la Enseñanza de Ingeniería Química en los Ultimos Años.”

In 1963, the University of Pittsburgh participated in a USAID project in Quito.  Professor Klinzing was among the first wave of 16 Pitt faculty members who went to Ecuador to teach, advise and construct laboratories.  Some of Professor Klinzing’s former students from his early days in Quito are now on the faculty of Chemical Engineering and Creativity at CUQ.  It is due to their motivation that the Homenaje was made possible.  Professor Klinzing is a member of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department at Swanson School of Engineering.
