Component Programs

The University Center for International Studies is home to four internationally recognized area studies centers. Each one has been designated a National Resource Center by the US Department of Education, certifying their status as leading centers of their kind in the United States. The area studies centers include:

In addition, UCIS is home to a European Union Center of Excellence, one of only ten so designated and partially funded by the European Union in the United States. It also operates programs in African Studies and in Global Studies. The Study Abroad Office and the Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs round out the UCIS component programs.

Two endowed fellowships at UCIS, managed through the Global Studies Program, provide opportunities for individuals from developing countries who demonstrate potential as future leaders. The H.J. Heinz Company Foundation Fellowship is open to applications world-wide, while the Carl Malmberg Fellowship specifically targets applicants from Lesotho. Additionally, the Kabak Fellowship in International Conflict and Conflict Resolution provides individuals from specific countries in conflict with a full scholarship to complete both a Master's in Public Policy and Management from the Graduate School for Public and International Affairs and a Global Studies Certificate from the Global Studies Program.
