2012 NCTA Seminar at Slippery Rock University
"East Asia: Seminar for Teachers"
In 2012, Armand Policicchio and Andrew Colvin will lead two 15-hour seminars (one in the Spring & one in the Fall) at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA. The Spring 15-hour seminar will focus primarily on China, while the Fall 15-hour seminar will focus on Japan and Korea. The two 15-hour seminars can be taken independently, but those who complete both seminars will receive additional benefits (see below).
Both seminars are designed for K-12 teachers and administrators with curricular responsibilities, and are intended to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about East Asia, in order to foster a place for East Asia in your schools. Some class time will be devoted to group discussions of teaching materials and strategies appropriate for different teaching levels.
Seminar Dates in 2012: March 3, 17, 31, April 14.

Benefits for Teachers who successfully complete the requirements for ONE of the 15-hour NCTA Seminars:
- Continuing education/in-service credits (Act 48 hours)
- $100 worth of teaching materials for your school
- A one-year subscription to the journal Education about Asia (a $30 value)
- $100 stipend at the completion of all seminar requirements.
- Status as an "NCTA Associate"
Benefits for Teachers who successfully complete the requirements for BOTH of the 15-hour NCTA Seminars:
In addition to the benefits listed above, at the completion of the second 15-hour seminar, teachers will also receive:
- A copy of the seminar textbook to keep (East Asia by Patricia Ebrey, an $85 value)
- A $200 stipend (in addition to the $100 already received for the first seminar) at the completion of the requirements for the second 15-hour seminar.
- Eligibility to participate in a variety of in-county experiences in East Asia during the summer.
- Status as a fully-fledged "NCTA Alumni"
