2012 NCTA Residential Summer Study Program: "WINDOW ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA: THE VIEW FROM HANGZHOU"

In the summer of 2012, twenty teachers from NCTA seminars at the University of Pittsburgh, Five College Center for East Asian Studies, Indiana University, University of Colorado and University of Washington spent two weeks in the Chinese city of Hangzhou. The program was lead by Kristin Stapleton (University of New York at Buffalo) and Shaloma Smith (Winchester Thurston School).

Most mornings, the program participants took part in lectures and seminars given by Zhejiang University professors about the local culture, history, and economic development. Afternoons were spent taking field-trips around Hanzghou and neighboring areas-- including the riverside town of Wuzhen. Participants also got to spend some time in the bustling city of Shanghai.
