Liubomir Bodurov, tenorThe tenor, Liubomir Bodurov, was born in Burgas on the 14th of October,
1925. Attending the Music Academy of Sofia, he was a student of Konstanza
Kirova. Following his debut with the operetta theater Stefan Macedonski in
1950, singing the role of Adam in the operetta The Bird Dealer by
Zeller, he went on to debut at the Bolshoi Theater on April 1, 1956, singing
Don Jose in Carmen.
From 1957 he worked successfully with the Sofia National Opera. International
appearances took him to the famous opera houses of Moscow, Brussels, Barcelona,
Amsterdam, Paris and into West Germany. In addition to Europe, he appeared in
the United States singing with the Chicago Opera and with great success in
Tokyo. His repertoire included Don Jose, Don Carlo, Edgardo, Cavaradossi,
Herman (Pique Dame), Des Griuex and Eric in The Flying Dutchman.
In addition to opera, he was well known as a concert and oratorio singer.
Liubomir Bodurov died in Sofia in April, 1992.
