The baritone, Michail Liutzkanov, was born 3 April 1900 in Sofia. He graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1927 as a student of Ivan Voulpe. After additional studies of bel canto singing in Rome he returned to Bulgaria in 1929.
From 1929 until 1961 he was a member of the Sofia National Opera with his debut being in 1929 in the Bulgarian opera Tzveta. In 1935 he appeared in a Paris production of the opera La Belle Helene with great success.
During his career the baritone performed over 60 roles. In addition to Germond, Marcello, Onegin, Papageno, Belcore, Silvio, and Rossini's Figaro he was successful in the roles of Wagner especially that of Wolfram.
