Stoyan Popov, baritone

The baritone, Stoyan Popov, was born in Jeljaskovo in 1933. He was a student of Christo Brambarov in Sofia. After winning a singing competition in Helsinki he became a leading baritone with the Sofia National Opera.

International appearances took him to Brussels, Paris, Lyon, Munich, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Warsaw, Berlin, Moscow, Kiev, Leningrad, Prague and Athens.

Major roles in his career included Scarpia, Escamillio, Iago, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Macbeth, Prince Igor, Telramund, di Luna and Don Carlos in Forza del Destino.
