The bass, Dimiter Stanchev, was born 20 November 1945 in Tvarditza. In 1970 he was a winner in the Seventh International Competition for Young Singers. After studying with Chavdar Hadjiev and graduating from the State Academy of Music in 1973, he became a member of the Pleven Opera for the 1973-74 season.

Following his debut with the Sofia National Opera in March 1975 as Leporello, he remained a soloist with that company for twenty-five years and toured with the company throughout Europe. He appeared as a guest in Mexico, Japan, Italy, France and the United States. As part of his extensive concert career, he has sung in the Requiems of Verdi, Mozart and Bruckner.

Major roles in his career included Bartolo, Sarastro, Leporello, di Silva, Ramfis, Timor, and the Gounod Mephistopheles.
