The mezzo, Jordanka Dimcheva, was born March 10, 1924 in Harmanli. She graduated from the State Academy of Music as a student of Ludmila Prokopova. Beginning in the chorus of Bulgarian Radio she soon became a soloist with that ensemble. In 1950 was a prize winner in the Prague International Competition.
Her debut with the Sofia National Opera on July 27, 1950 was as the Innkeeper in Boris Godunov. Since 1951 she has been a regular member of that company. In 1952 she performed with the Sofia National Opera in Moscow and in 1953 became a member of the Bolshoi Opera where she toured to Leningrad, Riga, Minsk and Kiev through November 1954. In 1958 she sang the role of Azucena in Prague, Berlin and Rostock.
Roles in her career included Amneris, Azucena, Eboli, Martha in Faust, the Innkeeper in Boris Godunov and many roles in Bulgarian operas.
