The soprano, Sijka Petrova, was born 30 April 1914 in Sofia. At the State Academy of Music she studied with Christina Morfova and Ludmila Prokopova. Her debut before her graduation in 1937 was in 1936 with the Sofia National Opera as Siebel in Faust.
From 1936 to 1939 she sang as a soloist in the Christina Morfova Chorus. Following that, she continued her studies in Paris, Berlin, Salzburg and finally in Italy with Moretti. In Germany the soprano studied the operas of Richard Wagner. In 1943 she returned to Bulgaria where she sang the roles of Senta, Tosca, Elsa, Leonora in Fidelio, Elizabeth, Natasha in Rusalka, Tatyana and Lisa. International appearances took her to Germany, Russia, Hungary and Belgium.
In 1960 Petrova began singing the mezzo roles of Eboli and Amneris.
