The baritone, Petar Petrov, was born 13 April 1919 in Sofia. In 1938 he studied violin at the Secondary Music School in Sofia. Between 1944 and 1946 he began private vocal studies with Sabcho Sabev in addition to performing as a choir member and soloist with the Bulgarian Army Ensemble.
In 1947 he was engaged by the Varna Opera. His debut was singing German in Queen of Spades with the Sofia Opera on July 8, 1948. His career as a major soloist there continued until 1960. As a member of the Sofia Opera he toured the USSR in 1953 and Belgium in 1960. In 1958 he sang at the Prague Spring Festival.
Major roles in his career included Escamillio, Rigoletto, Iago and di Luna in Trovatore.
