Every year, the University Center for International Studies and its component units offer superior lectures, symposia, and performances dealing with a wide range of international subjects. Often, time and geography conspire to prevent those wishing to attend these events from doing so. PILS is intended to make it easier to experience this content. Using digital videography and the Internet, UCIS will be able to offer live and on-demand video of select events. A portable rig consisting of a digital video camera and a latop can be taken into any network-equipped venue. The laptop encodes the video stream in real time, passing the data along to a special server. Viewers with appropriately configured computers can then "tune in" to watch the live broadcast. After the live broadcast, the video is edited, refined, and stored on the server for review at any time. To request PILS coverage of an event, please review the request process.
