October 21st, 2011: "O ţară sfântă ca soarele de pe cer"(A blessed country like the sun in the sky): Researching Fascism in Romania

Join us for a lecture by Roland Clark on Friday, October 21st, at 4:00PM at the History Department Lounge (3703 Posvar Hall, Pittsburgh 15260).

Roland Clark has been in Romania for the last year and a half researching his dissertation entitled “The Legion of the Archangel Michael: Building a Fascist Community in Interwar Romania.” He has published several articles on the topic. His research interests span Cultural Studies; gender, ethnicity, race and religion; and

April 8th, 2011: Aliens with Extraordinary Skills

Join us for an evening of learning and entertainment in the company of Romanian-born, NY-based internationally renowned playwright and performer Saviana Stanescu (www.saviana.com). This performative lecture traces the experiences of immigrants to America today and will immerse you in the universe of these often marginal latecomers. It will take place on April 8th from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM in the Cathedral of Learning in room 324.

 

October 28 - November 19, 2010: To Act or Not to Act: Ethics in Romanian Cinema

The conference will take place on October 28, between 2.00-5.00pm in Room 4130 WWPH (Posvar Hall). All screenings will take place on
Thursday and Friday evenings, starting with 7.00pm in Room 324, Cathedral of Learning. Admission to the conference and the film festival is free.

November 6, 2009: Romanian Folk Performances and Traditions

A pleasant evening with joyful Romanian folk dances, great music and presentations on Romanian ethnic costumes and unique rural festivals and customs. October 9, 2009: Cultural Fusion: Multicultural Late Night Event

This free event combined multicultural student organizations efforts to provide an evening showcasing perfomances, food, cultural nuances, and dancing. Participants included SALSA, Spirit, Tanah, ISU, iFS, TSA, Arab Student Organization, and Romanian and Bulgarian student organizations.

March 1, 2009: Celebration of Martisor/Martenitsa traditions in Bulgaria, Moldova, and Romania

An event celebrating the Martisor/Martenitsa tradition (a little amulet tied with red and white yarn). Included presentations about customs in Bulgaria, Moldova, and Romania, delicious ethnic food and Bulgarian folk dances, and a movie about the life of Romanian painter Stefan Luchian.
