The Asian Studies Center is currently seeking interns of the following descriptions.

Chinese Language Social Media Intern

$10,000 Tuition Remission Fellowship ($5000 applied to tuition each semester)

The Asian Studies Center (ASC) invites applications for the Chinese Language Social Media intern. Applicants must be a currently enrolled Asian Studies certificate student of outstanding ability (QPA of 3.0 or above) for a tuition remission fellowship in the amount of $5000 tuition remission for the fall and spring semesters of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The recipient of the fellowship will be required to work ten hours per week during the fall and spring terms. They will assist the ASC Associate and staff in the development and oversight of China-related social media and communications.

DUTIES

1. Develop and maintain of China-related social media

2. Frequent and coordinated posting on Chinese-language social media (Weibo, Facebook and WeChat)

3. Assist in logistical support of all ASC China-related guests

4. Support grant development and statistics research

5.Coordinate alumni retention efforts in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and People’s Republic of China

6. Translation of documents from Manadarin to English and English to Mandarin as requested

7. Other duties as assigned

BENEFITS

The Chinese Language Social Media Intern will receive tuition remission will receive tuition remission in the amount of $10,000 for the 2019-2020 academic year. The award will be applied in the amount of $5000 for the fall and spring terms. They will have the opportunity to network with Pitt alumni and students and develop their professional communication skills.

Communications and Media Intern

$10,000 Tuition Remission Fellowship ($5000 applied to tuition each semester)

The Asian Studies Center (ASC) invites applications for the Communications and Media Intern. Applicants must be a currently enrolled Asian Studies certificate student of outstanding ability (QPA of 3.0 or above) for a for a tuition remission fellowship in the amount of $5000 tuition remission for the fall and spring semesters of the 2019-2020 academic year. The recipient of the fellowship will be required to work ten hours per week during the fall and spring terms. They will assist the Assistant Director of Partnerships and Programming and and ASC staff with engaging students and promoting center events especially through social media platforms.

DUTIES

1. Development and weekly creation of a digital newsletter publicizing ASC activities and programs

2. Frequent and coordinated posting on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

3. Collect analytics and data of student, event and alumni data for reporting purposes

4. Assist in development and distribution of promotional materials including print and digital content

5.Event documentation including photography and audio/video recording

6. Assist with website design and maintenance

7. Coordinate and update the ASC blog with supervision of the ASC Staff

8. Establish and maintain an ASC YouTube Channel

9. Other duties as assigned

Student Global Ambassador

$10,000 Tuition Remission Fellowship ($5000 applied to tuition each semester)

The Asian Studies Center (ASC) invites applications for the ASC Student Global Ambassador. Applicants must be a currently enrolled undergraduate Asian Studies certificate student of outstanding ability (QPA of 3.0 or above) for a tuition remission fellowship in the amount of $5000 tuition remission for the fall and spring semesters of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The recipient fo the fellowship will be required to work a maximum of ten hours per week during the fall and spring terms. They will assist the ASC Assistant Director for Academic Affairs with recruiting, orientation, and other aspects of the undergraduate programs of the Asian Studies Center. They will be asked to represent the center at various events on campus as well as visit Asia-related language and content classes to recruit new certificate students. Under the supervision of the ASC staff, the Ambassador will serve as a liaison with the language departments and student organizations, oversee the language partner program, and promote My Pitt Globala nd UCIS initiatives.

In addition, the candidate selected will need to learn about the programs of the Center, be able to respond to questions about the programs, and have an overall knowledge of the the University Center for International Studies. The Ambassador selected must enjoy working with undergraduates and be able to relate to their needs.

Work hours will vary depending on the University schedule for recruitment events. The Ambassador may be asked to occasionally work on weekends and evenings.
