Who We Are
The Center for Ethnic Studies Research (CESR) advances innovative multidisciplinary and collaborative intersectional research addressing core communities central to Ethnic Studies—Latine, Asian American, Indigenous, African American/U.S. African diasporas—from local, regional, comparative, and transnational perspectives.
Our Mission
CESR is committed to:
-
Advancing research and education in ethnic studies.
-
Examining and challenging notions of identity while fostering global citizenship.
-
Empowering diverse faculty and students, as well as those who work in ethnic studies, to gain agency in their academic and professional pursuits.
-
Building a community of advocates for progress in ethnic studies locally and globally.
What We Do
Our investigative projects and programs aim to expand educational excellence, nurture community engagement, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. As an active catalyst towards effective change, CESR is where access and opportunity connect with faculty and students who are looking to amplify research and professional development in Ethnic Studies.
Where We Will Go
CESR aspires to combine Pitt’s network of faculty, students, and staff with innovative opportunities and programming that illuminate the experiences and counter-narratives of race and ethnicity in the United States. Using strategic research and educational programs, we seek to foster intellectual engagement, enhance awareness and dialogue, develop community partnerships, and sponsor grant opportunities in Ethnic Studies.
Center for Ethnic Studies Research
We offer students and faculty spaces for community-building through collaborative research and professional development opportunities exploring race and ethnicity that include internships, fellowships, certificates, workshops, symposia, partnerships, and an array of other activities.
I think all human beings are equal, but one has to unceasingly fight hard to maintain that equality.
